While the whole world is waiting to see the new Ford GT out on the street, the company – wanting to make use of the momentum – went ahead and announced a new variant of the super car. To be showcased in Daytona for first time weeks after winning Rolex 24, the Ford GT Competition Series is a lighter, more hard-core, performance-oriented, limited edition version of the car for more serious drivers.
The biggest highlights of the Ford GT Competition Series, which will certainly be more expensive and even more difficult to get than the regular model, include lightweight, race-inspired Perspex acrylic engine hatch cover with manual latch and carbon fiber prop rod, lighter bulkhead Gorilla Glass, lightweight carbon fiber racing stripes, A-Pillars, and side mirrors, and new integrated air vents. These not only save a lot of weight, they also lower the car’s center of gravity, making the 650 hp performance machine even sweeter around corners.
True to its name and character, Ford GT Competition Series also comes with FIA-certified steel roll cage and active aerodynamic system, but creature comforts such as air conditioning, radio and speakers, stowage bins and cupholders have all been eliminated. Other notable options include performance-enhancing carbon fiber wheels, and titanium lug nuts and exhaust. And you can have this exclusive model in Shadow Black, Frozen White, Ingot Silver, Liquid Blue, Liquid Grey and Triple Yellow, distinguished with carbon fiber lower body trim in matching gloss finish, red accents and stripes, and ebony Alcantara on the seats, instrument panel and headliner.
