Lightweight Avatar Roadster Revealed in Production Guise

In recent years the British sports car as we knew it has morphed into something that has very little in common with cars that created this celebrated class in the years after WWII. Take the BAC Mono, for instance. That thing looks and costs like a bloody super car. Now, though, Devon-based form has come up with something called the Avatar Roadster which is as close to the original British sport cars as you can get these days.

Granted, Avatar Roadster does not feature a fake vintage look like some of those other boutique sports car. It looks halfway between a modern super car and what would have passed as futuristic in the 90s. But it’s a good, cool design the car boasts, and it’s really compact which means it is very light – 695 kg to be precise. With that kind of weight the Avatar is fast no matter what sort of engine you put in it. But just to be sure, the makers of the Roadster have given it two magnificent options: a 2.0 turbocharged Ecoboost engine with 250bhp and a 2.3 liter turbocharged unit from the new Focus RS with 350 hp.

The latter enables the Avatar Roadster to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds using a six-speed transaxle. It could be even faster with the optional seven-speed sequential Quaife gearbox. Other performance highlights include full roll cage, plumbed-in extinguisher, foam-filled tank, data logger, GoPro HD camera kit, rear wing and LSD. But it’s not just the sporty features that make the Roadster a goo all-round fun machine. The thing also comes with an Apple CarPlay + Android Auto audio system, roof, heater and air conditioning. You even get leather interior and heated screen. This means the driving experience is absolutely wonderful.

Unveiled at the 2017 Performance Car Show in Birmingham, the Avatar Roadster is set for production in the spring with a starting price of £39,990.
