First Honda Civic Type R to be Auctioned for Charity

Ahead of its arrival at the U.S. showrooms, the very first production version of the new Honda Civic Type R (VIN 01) will be auctioned off for charity. In fact, the car is already up for grabs online at Bring a Trailer and all the proceeds from its sale will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The auction will end in 7 days from the time of this writing (June 8) with the current bid standing at $53,000.

So go and bid at Bring a Trailer, for not only will you take part in a good cause, if you spend good you will end up with an awesome hot hatchback, the most powerful Honda of all time produced for the U.S. with a record lap time of 7 minutes 43.80 seconds on Germany’s 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife (north loop). The new Honda Civic Type R features a 306-horsepower 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC direct-injected TURBO powerplant with i-VTEC, a short-shifting six-speed manual transmission, dual-axis strut front strut and Adaptive Dampers, Brembo brakes, and three driving modes of Comfort, Sport and +R.

“The Civic Type R has long been forbidden fruit for enthusiasts in the U.S., so we thought it would be fun to offer one lucky customer a shot at owning the first of its kind in America while benefitting the leading nonprofit solely dedicated to finding a cure for childhood brain tumors, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation,” said Jeff Conrad, Senior Vice President, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
