The crossover market is still going strong and to get ahead car makers reinvent their existing model almost as soon as they have released them. Well, at least some of them do. Take the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, for instance. While the car gets a nice refresh and new features it cannot claim the same level of newness, if you will, as it’s Korean and Japanese rivals which get more profound changes and in shorter cycles.
At any rate, if you are a loyal Chevy man you probably won’t care about all that and are keen to know what’s the deal with the new model. The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox has had extensive plastic surgery to knot only look sleeker, but also perform better aerodynamically. The car is 4.7 inches shorter than its predecessor to make it easier to maneuver and park. At the same GM designer managed to increase the interior space by as much as 3.5 cubic feet.
The size reduction wreak havoc on the Equinox’x aero properties, which is why the designer – after more than 500 hours of wind tunnel tests – gave it electronically controlled upper and lower grille shutters. So this affordable crossover has active aero which used to be reserved for high-end sports cars. What’s more, it gets a series of cleverly incorporated “air trips,” as the designers call them, for optimal air separation at the edges of the taillamps and corners at the D-pillars.
